"Tidbits From The Fig Preserve"

We use this page to tell our guests and friends what’s happening at The Fig Preserve. In the fall we will have
photos of the colors on the pond and at Lost Maple, spring and summer we’ll have updates on the butterflies
and birds and how the fig crop is coming along. We’ll also list other helpful information.

Posted June 30, 2009, just as we are getting a much needed shower:
Since the middle of June the butterflies have been in abundance. They really seem to like the
heat of the day. At night many hide out in the fig tree. The summer brings us several varieties
of butter flies. From our front porch we watch swallowtails, olive hair streaks, queens, gulf
fritillaries, an occassional zebra and dog face.

The figs are starting to ripen. This year they are a little earlier than usual. Maybe because the
tree is absolutely loaded. So we should be busy canning and drying figs during July.
